Mountjoy has been appointed by Ryde School with Upper Chine to construct a new boarding house with a total of 1800m² of accommodation space over three floors. The new building, which will be built on school’s main campus in Ryde, Isle of Wight, will accommodate up to 68 pupils - the majority of which are expected to be sixth form students. It will be made accessible to pupils, staff and parents via a new driveway along the school’s perimeter.

The project commenced with site set-up in November 2019, with enabling works carrying through to the structural steel installation in January 2020. The build is expected to be completed in late 2020. In the new year a site camera will be set up, allowing both the school and local residents to monitor the progress on site.

Duncan O’Rourke, Building Projects Director at Mountjoy, commented: “Mountjoy are delighted to have been chosen to support Ryde School’s growth. This new boarding house will provide outstanding accommodation and will ensure that Ryde School continue to offer a world-class experience for pupils from around the globe. Mountjoy has strong roots on the Isle of Wight and we are particularly proud to be supporting a prestigious local project such as this.”

The £5m project is a prominent addition to Mountjoy’s education projects portfolio, which in 2019 has included a dining hall extension at Amery Hill School, a complex internal refurbishment at The Lantern SEN School and smaller refurbishments across various junior schools in the south.
