Mountjoy are proud to be sponsoring ‘Walk the Island 2023’, a sponsored walk created and organised by the Portsmouth Fundraising Community, a local group who fundraise for many charities within Portsmouth.

The walk will take place on Saturday 1st of July and will cover close to 13 miles around Portsea Island. Approximately 100 people will be taking part, all with connections to the city of Portsmouth, and each will be raising money for two fantastic local charities, Enable Ability, and Spark.

Enable Ability is a disability charity that focuses on the care, welfare and advancement of disabled people of all ages. They provide a range of inclusive services that provide stimulation, friendship and fun, whist giving families and carers much needed respite. The money raised through the Walk the Island Event will fund new sports-adapted wheelchairs for their inclusive wheelchair basketball service for young people with learning disabilities.

Spark Community Space is a Portsmouth-based charity launched in 2020. The charity provides a place for people of all backgrounds and situations who feel like they don’t fit in, a place to belong without judgement. They provide a space to socialise, gain skills and purpose through volunteering, and access training towards regaining confidence and a sense of belonging in society. Walk the Island will be fundraising for their new media room within their Community Space.
