The Objective
Modernisation of Grade II Listed, Westbury Manor Museum to boost visitor numbers which have been declining in recent years. The museum's exhibitions were to be modernised into a mix of interactive exhibits and digital media with the second floor being converted into creative studios. Works needed to be carried out in time for a summer opening and had to be in keeping with the age of the building.
The Solution
Refurbishment works included remodelling the reception area and café as well as providing a community space that local businesses can hire, with an enhanced shop selling Hampshire produce. Railings in the courtyard at the front of the building were removed to make the museum more welcoming to the public.
Building preservation methods included installing a breathable floor covering, restoring wooden floors and preserving original walls without filling cracks.
