Refurbishment Construction Education

Objective

During 2022, Mountjoy carried out numerous projects at Solent University as call off projects from our overarching framework contract. Solent appointed Mountjoy to carry out works to the Michael Andrews Building and the Reginald Mitchell Building after leaks had caused significant damages. We also remodelled and refurbished the existing office space within the Michael Andrews building to create additional space for staff and students.

Solution

The projects were worth a total of £228k and started in April 2022, finishing in July 2022.

Michael Andrews Building- Sims Centre

To rectify the damage carried out by the leak, we removed the bottom section of all the internal plasterboard walls, reinstating it with new sections. We then repainted the new walls, and installed new skirting and floor coverings where required.

Michael Andrews Building- A101 Space

We remodelled and refurbished the existing office spaces within the building in order to create a new open plan office area, plus staff kitchenette and meeting rooms. We also installed new acoustic panelling to ensure privacy within the meeting rooms.

Reginald Mitchell Building

We removed the bottom section of the internal plasterboard walls and replaced the ply underneath the floor coverings. We carried out wall decorations and installed new floor coverings in both the Ground floor and Basement area, where the leaks had caused damage.

As part of this package of works, we also removed internal partitions to create a new open plan IT Workspace. We carried out painting and decorating and installed new floor coverings
