Objective

Stamshaw Junior School – located in Portsmouth – was in need of some re-conditioning work to bring it back to standard. Mountjoy was appointed in 2019 to carry this out over a tight summer programme, allowing pupils to return to the refreshed building in the autumn term.

Solution

Work carried out at the school included the following:

  • Replacement roof coverings and associated works to four buildings
  • Creation of a full height internal room
  • Replacement paving to the external areas
  • Replacement perimeter fencing
  • Fire service upgrades
  • Creation of a soft play area
  • Retaining sleeper wall replacement
  • Provision of and replacement fire doors
  • Creation of two number new external doorways
  • Structural concrete floor repairs
  • Replacement of the asbestos window boards
  • External rain water drainage improvements
  • Recommissioning of ventilation equipment
  • Boiler and heating system replacement
  • Full redecoration to some classrooms

We later returned to the school during the autumn term to assist a group of students from the University of Chichester in creating a pond for the pupils to monitor local wildlife.
