Museum of Army Flying | Construction of Memorial
Museum of Army Flying
Construction New Build Landscaping

Objective

The Museum of Army Flying set out to build a unique memorial to commemorate all those who have died in the service of British Army Flying at their site in Middle Wallop.

Solution

Mountjoy started building works on the memorial in July, installing 39 graphic concrete panels which display 5127 names. Each panel was individually dropped in and once in situ they were rendered. Grass seed has been sewn in the mound surrounding the memorial to complete the landscaping works.

A service of dedication was attended by the project team at  Hampshire County Council and The Museum of Army Flying, families of the fallen, veterans, the Mayor and Mayoress of Test Valley and other senior guests including servicemen and financial supporters of the project. The event also coincided with the 60th anniversary of the Army Air Corps (AAC). A historic aircraft flight flypast took place at the end of the service.
