Portsmouth City Council | Harbour School Extension & Refurbishment Works
Portsmouth City Council
Refurbishment Extension Design & Build Education Local Authority

Objective

Portsmouth City Council appointed Mountjoy to provide alteration, extension and refurbishment works for The Harbour School at The Vanguard Centre in Cosham. Harbour School educates children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Solution

The works have provided appropriate, specialist accommodation for a wide range of vocational subjects and have been specifically tailored to meet the needs of the pupils – this has included the provision of suitable classrooms, office and circulation space together with modern toilet facilities. In addition, landscaping works have provided external teaching spaces and new access arrangements.

There was a high level of trades on site each day, peaking at 66 on a single day. The team held weekly coordination meetings to manage the sequencing of the works and the location tradesmen would be working at any one time in order to maintain continuity. This method allowed us to offer up areas to the Council for snagging as each trade filtered through from the west to the east of the building.

The project commenced in February 2018 and was completed in October 2018, ready to open to pupils following the autumn half term.
