Joyce Gryffith of East Wittering and Bracklesham Parish Council and Jacqui Manuels, leader of the local Girl Guides stepped up to take the first shovel of dirt at the groundbreaking ceremony on 19th July for a new community centre.

Local construction and maintenance company, Mountjoy Ltd, are delivering the new community building in East Wittering, West Sussex, set to be named Downview Hall.

The project is being funded by the F Glenister Woodger Trust, a charity that seeks to benefit people local to West Wittering. It has made grants to support projects from amateur sport to heritage, education and training and accommodation.

Mountjoy will be developing a single storey building with a multi-use sports court (to be used by the Girl Guides for badminton), toilet and shower facilities, an office area, community space, kitchen facilities and storage spaces. Externally there will be a safe play area and landscaping.

Both the local Girl Guides and Brownies were in attendance at the event, along with the project’s Chartered Surveyors, Chawton Hill Associates Ltd, and members of Mountjoy’s construction team. The works are due to take 7 months to complete.
