CASE STUDY / THE MOUNTJOY CHALLENGE
MOUNTJOY MAKING A DIFFERENCE THROUGH CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Initiative: To undertake a project using our staffs skills for charity.
Date: June 2008.
Partners: Ace Scaffolding, City Plumbing, Dulux, Edmundsons, G E Banks Windows, Howdens, IDML, Medina Foods, Speedy Hire, Sydenhams
As part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility Policy,
Mountjoy asked the general public to suggest a project which
would be Challenge Mountjoy.
The only rules were that the project must be on the Isle of Wight
and make a positive difference The company would then carry
out the project using their collective skills, from plumbing to
painting and carpentry to administration.
Our chosen community based project was Ryde Inshore Rescue,
run entirely by volunteers who rely heavily on the kindness and
generosity of the general public.
The building the volunteers use was in a very poor state and
funds are actively being raised to extend upwards and make big
changes (Phase II).
Phase I however, was undertaken by the staff of Mountjoy on
Saturday, June 7th. Plumbers, builders, decorators, electricians,
carpenters, roofers and even admin staff freely gave up their
weekend aiming to make a real lasting difference to a team, who
give their time so generously in order to protect and save lives of
people who use the waters from East Cowes to Bembridge!

Summary of Achievements:
• Co-ordination and undertaking of a charitable project in
the community;
• Improving the working environment of the volunteers at
Ryde Inshore Rescue Centre;
• Partnering with local suppliers coming together with the
aim of helping a charity in the community;
• Staff voluntarily giving up their weekend to work on the
project;
• Bring publicity to the charity and helping raise money for
the next Phase.
